Working together to improve the quality of life for persons with physical disabilities!
Disability Partnerships partnered with the NBC4 Health & Fitness Expo in Washington, DC on Saturday, Jan. 7 – Sunday, Jan. 8, 017. We offered free, 15-minute self-defense training sessions for anyone with limited to no mobility at the organization’s booth on Saturday, Jan. 7. This was the first wheelchair self-defense demonstration in the 24 year history of the NBC4 Health & Fitness Expo. The short training sessions were are an example of Disability Partnership’s “Wheels of Defense” program—an innovative program designed to strengthen the safety of persons with limited to no mobility who may need the aid of mobility devices such as a wheelchair. The course was taught by a certified self-defense instructor with thirty years of experience in personalizing classes for people of all abilities. It is designed to increase awareness, assertiveness, verbal boundary-setting skills, safety strategies and physical techniques to successfully escape, resist or survive violations.
