In 2019, Disability Partnerships embarked on a new accessibility community outreach project. We partnered with Adventist HealthCare and Rehabilitation (AHC) in Rockville, MD to develop a checklist of ADA guidelines to help medical offices ensure they are truly accessible.
We conducted audits of local medical facilities and provided feedback to the physicians who managed those facilities. The audits were conducted by a physical terapist, and a wheelchair user. The goal of the project is to ensure that the inaccessibility of a doctor's office is not a barrier to healthcare for persons with severe physical disabilities.
Unfortunately, with COVID-19, we ended the physical audits of facilities. However, this program restarted with the help of a generous health equity grant. Our role is to support the marketing and promotion of the accessibility project.
