Community Accessibility Pilot Program

Paving the Way for Inclusive Medical Facilities

In 2019, Disability Partnerships launched a new community outreach project focused on accessibility. We partnered with Adventist HealthCare and Rehabilitation (AHC) in Rockville, MD, to develop a checklist of ADA guidelines to help medical offices ensure they are truly accessible.

Our team, including a physical therapist and a wheelchair user, conducted audits of local medical facilities and provided feedback to the managing physicians. The goal of the project was to eliminate the inaccessibility of doctor's offices as a barrier to healthcare for individuals with severe physical disabilities.

Due to COVID-19, we had to pause the physical audits of facilities. However, we are currently partnering with United Spinal to support this project. Our role now includes supporting the marketing and promotion of the accessibility project.

If you are interested in supporting this effort financially or volunteering, please email us at info@disabilitypartnerships.org.
